After a national search, UW Medicine has named Joy Grosser as its new chief information officer (CIO), effective November 1, 2017.

Information technology "should always be present to enhance the patient experience” as part of the care-delivery system, Grosser said.

“My goal is to build upon and optimize our tools to support patient care and our care teams. Technology provides us a powerful means to care for the individual patient as well as patient populations. UW Medicine’s mission to improve the health of the public aligns perfectly with my philosophy, and I am looking forward to working with the numerous teams to achieve that aspiration,” she said.

Grosser has more than 20 years of senior leadership in information technology and is currently CIO of University Hospitals in Cleveland, a network of 18 hospitals, more than 40 outpatient health centers and 200 physician offices in northern Ohio. The system includes University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, which is affiliated with the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

She previously developed and implemented IT strategic plans for UnityPoint Health in West Des Moines, Iowa, and for the University of California Irvine Health System in Orange, California.

“Joy’s solid background in healthcare information technology and experience in large-scale health systems made her an ideal candidate for the position,” said Dr. Paul Ramsey, CEO, UW Medicine. “She will be a great asset to UW Medicine.”

Grosser will oversee UW Medicine’s information technology infrastructure, which spans four hospitals and numerous clinics and supports the UW Medicine mission of improving the health of the public.
