What we can learn from COVID-19 antibody tests

The COVID-19 antibody tests are important to help discern the prevalence of the disease in the community. But what does a positive test result mean?

Dr. Vicky Fang, medical director of UW Medicine primary care and population health, says a positive test will tell you if you've had COVID-19. It does not, however, indicate whether you could get infected again.

"We want to explain this to patients so when and if they receive a positive serology result, they understand that they should not stop using the protective measures that we’re asking everyone to use: masking, social distancing, and handwashing," she said.
