UW Medicine pediatrician Dr. Ben Danielson is a leader in addressing inequities that affect the lives of children, teens, and young adults. Among those inequities is incarceration at detention facilities, which he says is ineffective and harms Black and Indigenous youth.
He supports community-based alternatives as better solutions that connect young people with services and programs that help them heal and thrive. The programs require community engagement, support and encouragement.
