Ultrasound tool targets pancreatic tumors

Tough tumors that make pancreatic cancer challenging to eradicate may soon have a new foe.

Tanya Khokhlova, an associate professor of research in gastroenterology at the UW School of Medicine, is leading the testing of an ultrasound device that creates fissures in pancreatic tumors, which allow drug therapies to more readily enter.

"Because pancreas tumors are so hard to get to, we need a smaller source, ideally one that you can use for both therapy and imaging at the same time," said Khokhlova. "This is what we had designed for this purpose."
