Soundbites: What is non-Hodgkin lymphoma?

Paul Allen, Microsoft co-founder and Seattle Seahawks owner, died from complications of non-Hodgkin lymphoma two weeks after publicly announcing the cancer had returned.

The disease starts in white blood cells called lymphocytes, part of the body’s immune system. It can affect someone's blood counts and leave people more vulnerable to infections.

Ajay Gopal is a professor of oncology and medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and a lymphoma specialist at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.  He discusses non-Hodgkin lymphoma and relevant research for therapies.
