Dr. Anthony Back, a professor of medicine and practitioner with UW Medicine in Seattle, discusses the clinical trial of psilocybin psychotherapy whose findings were published in JAMA Network Open on Dec. 5, 2024.

The participants in the trial were front-line clinicians who became burned out and depressed while treating patients early in the COVID-19 pandemic.

“For doctors and nurses who feel burned out or disillusioned or disconnected from the patient care they want to provide, this study shows that psilocybin therapy is safe and can help these clinicians work through those feelings and get better,” said Back.
