Kidney chips in space will help medicine on Earth
A UW School of Pharmacy and UW Medicine research project is being sent into space with the hope that the tests will provide answers to how the kidney is injured and how it can be repaired. They're using kidneys on a chip to conduct the experiments as the devices mimic functions of the actual organ. Jonathan Himmelfarb with the UW School of Medicine and Ed Kelly with the UW School of Pharmacy explain the benefits of running these experiments in space and how this will bring answers to us here on Earth.
