Donor heart infected with hepatitis C saves man's life

If you needed a heart transplant, would you choose to get a donor heart that would also infect you with hepatitis C?  That's the decision Kerry Hayes had to make. He was the first in the Pacific Northwest to do so, and says he would do it again, as UW Medical Center's new protocol at saved his life.  Heart-transplant candidates can opt in to be considered for matching donor organs even if the organ is infected with hep C, and then take an eight-week course of medication to clear the virus.
