In recent years, the use of water-enhancing products has increased among both professional athletes and the rest of U.S. society, too. These products’ additives claim to make water taste better, provide an energy boost or help replace electrolytes.
UW Medicine dietitian Dr. Karen Munger takes us through some positives and negatives of these additives. Munger says that, unless you’re a high performance athlete, the energy and rehydration mixtures probably are unnecessary. Flavor enhancers, however, might make sense.
