Wildfire smoke endangers children with asthma

The chances of an asthma attack drastically increase amid the fumes that are more prevalent this time of year.

As wildfires begin to engulf forests across the Pacific Northwest, the resulting smoke can dangerously affect children with asthma. Wildfire smoke contains particulates that damage lungs, and prolonged exposure can raise one’s risk of lung cancer.

UW Medicine pediatrician Dr. Nicole Johnson presents facts about the harms of wildfire smoke and tips about how parents can safeguard their children when the smoke arrives.
