Virtual reality clarifies complex heart cases
Right before Christmas, a co-worker noticed that Brevin Cronk's lips had turned blue. It was a new, acute problem with his heart, and he was rushed to UW Medical Center – Montlake. Cronk's case was complex because he had undergone several previous repairs for congenital heart abnormalities. Dr. Zachary Steinberg, an interventional cardiologist, and Dmitry Levin with the Center for Cardiovascular Innovation, used virtual reality to get inside Cronk's heart and plan the procedure to save his life.
