Virologists discuss new test to detect COVID-19

Alex Greninger and Keith Jerome answer journalists' questions at a March 4 news conference at UW Medicine's Virology Lab.  The lab had gone live the day before with testing actual patient samples. The scientists said they anticipate ramping up to be able to test 1,000 to 1,500 samples per day by the end of the week.

Over the past couple of weeks, UW Medicine’s test underwent development. It had to undergo validation to measure its accuracy in detecting SARS-CoV-2 in patient samples, while at the same time reducing false positives in unaffected samples or inconclusive results.
