Tips for managing insomnia

Sleeping poorly? Insomnia is one of the most common sleep problems. Michael Vitiello, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine, says you can take steps to create better sleep habits. These include creating a routine for to-bed and to-rise times, and optimizing your environment for sleep.

"When you’re exploring these changes, you should do one change at a time," Vitiello recommends. "You shouldn’t try and change everything because you don’t know what works and doesn’t. That’s why you have to experiment with these possibilities."
