"We don't actually need research to know that it would be terrifying for children, especially those children; they're strangers in a strange land, they don't speak the language, they don't know what's happening, (and) they are essentially warehoused in an institutional context," said Lucy Berliner. She directs the Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress at Harborview Medical Center and is a University of Washington clinical associate professor of social work and psychiatry and behavioral sciences.
