Segment: Slather on that sunscreen!
Warmer weather is here and Washingtonians are venturing outside to run, bike, walk and just sit. Dr. Jennifer Gardner, a UW Medicine dermatologist and melanoma expert, encourages all her patients to get outdoors, with one caveat: Cover up and apply sunscreen. Most people don't apply nearly enough for adequate protection – one ounce every two hours, she says. The guidance applies even on days when the Pacific Northwest is shrouded in clouds, because the sun’s UVA rays penetrate the clouds and can cause cancer.
Gardner discusses the topic in this downloadable video segment.
