Panel updates concussion-care guidance

Keeping kids in a dark room,  or "cocoon therapy," after a concussion is no longer what's recommended due to research that shows it can actually prolong concussion symptoms.

Kim Harmon, professor of family medicine and orthopedics at the University of Washington School of Medicine, is lead author of updated guidelines on how to treat and understand concussions. That statement was published Jan. 31, 2019, by the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. and simultaneously co-published by the British Journal of Sports Medicine and Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine.

Harmon explains what this new guidance means and why more research is necessary in the video below.
