Infectious-diseases doc comments on Biden’s diagnosis

Dr. John Lynch, an infectious diseases physician at UW Medicine, says reports of President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 infection highlight the current spread of the virus and the risk that we all face during the ongoing surge.

“If the president can get it with all the protections that he has, any one of us is at risk for getting COVID-19 at any time unless we take precautions,” said Lynch, the medical director of infection control at Harborview Medical Center. “I think that's the thing we have to keep in mind."

Biden is reportedly being treated with Paxlovid, an oral antiviral medication which blocks the virus from replicating inside a person who is already infected.
