With infant formula in short supply, what are options?

Some families have reported difficulty finding their desired brand of infant formula on store shelves. Experts say it's due to shoppers buying more than usual, similar to the hoarding of toilet paper that has emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Esther Chung, a UW Medicine pediatrician, and Eliza Lagerquist, a dietitian working in the neonatal intensive care unit at UW Medical Center – Montlake, explain what parents can do, and what they shouldn't do, if they have trouble finding the formula they're used to purchasing.

Don't panic, Chung says. You can try another store or a reputable online retailer, or consider buying a different brand. Parents can work with their pediatrician to determine which alternatives make sense.
