How face coverings can help prevent the spread of COVID-19

On Tuesday, Governor Jay Inslee announced an order for everyone to wear a face covering when out in public to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. Dr. Chloe Bryson-Cahn, associate medical director of infection prevention at Harborview Medical Center, says that as we continue to learn more about COVID-19, one of the things we've discovered is that in the days leading up to developing symptoms, people can shed quite a bit of virus. Putting a mask on protects others around you.

"When we put on a mask to contain that virus, we call that 'source control' and it’s a really important feature of preventing infectious diseases from spreading," Bryson-Cahn says.
