How do cautions change as more are vaccinated?

People who are "fully vaccinated" – meaning two weeks have elapsed since the final dose of the final vaccine series  – can gather with others and share a meal, unmasked, indoors with another vaccinated household, says Dr. Seth Cohen. He's an infectious-disease specialist at UW Medicine in Seattle, discussing the shifting backdrop of coronavirus prevention and immunity in soundbites below.

"Vaccinated grandparents can see their grandchildren indoors and unmasked, even if the kids are not yet vaccinated," he said, adding the caveat that the children must not have symptoms of COVID-19.

"We're still learning more about the ability of vaccines to reduce transmission and protect against the variants, and as we have more of that information, I think we will continue to see guidance change."
