Don't delay care during COVID-19 pandemic
It's understandable that people are worried during the COVID-19 pandemic. But they shouldn't avoid seeking the care they need. Dr. Tom Courtney, pediatrician at the UW Neighborhood Kent-Des Moines Clinic, says he and other providers are concerned that children are not receiving treatment for chronic illnesses, like asthma, and are missing scheduled immunizations. This could lead to an outbreak of measles or pertussis.
"The bottom line is that we’re here. We want to talk to the parents. We want to help out in any way that we can," Courtney says.
He explains telehealth is an option, and if there is a need to come into the clinic, measures are in place to ensure it's the safest environment possible.
