Dieting affects your microbiome

Some 45 million Americans go on a diet each year. Most don't realize that, in doing so, they are changing their microbiomes.

“Every time you diet, it’s causing fluctuations in the compositions of your gut bacteria, basically destabilizing that community, and this can have negative or positive consequences depending upon the type of diet you are changing to,” said William DePaolo, a UW Medicine researcher in gastroenterology.
