Dealing with the vaccine supply challenge
To date, UW Medicine has administered more than 64,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. But supply continues to be a challenge and that's why our healthcare system had to pause making new first-dose appointments. Lisa Brandenburg, president of UW Medicine hospitals and clinics, explains that clinical leaders continue to evalute the fluid situation.
"We are hopeful that there will be more vaccine coming, and we are aware that the Biden administration is looking to create additional vaccine distribution across the country," she says.
Brandenburg also discusses the efforts of UW Medicine staff to quickly use a surprise allotment of COVID-19 vaccines after a freezer failed at a nearby healthcare system.
