Cutting sugar from kids' diets

The figure is shocking: On average, a 10-year-old child has consumed 18 years' worth of sugar, based on recommended daily allowances. The study by Public Health England found that children were consuming in excess of 8 teaspoons of sugar each day.

These numbers didn't surprise Judy Simon, a registered dietitian with UW Medicine. Most of the problematic sugars are in products marketed to kids, such as breakfast cereals, soda, and fruit juice. Simon offers advice on how to reduce sugar in kids' diets – while not making sweets taboo.
