Cardiac team performs world's-first procedure
On July 17, 2017, a UW Medicine team performed the first-ever catheter-based surgical laceration to replace a failing artificial aortic valve. The patient, Myra Gaines of Kennewick, Washington, has a vascular anatomy that spurred the development of the new procedure. Within weeks, her family reported, Ms. Gaines was walking around her block four times a day.
Cardiologist Danny Dvir discusses the case in this downloadable video.
