UW Medicine fully supports the principle that everyone should have full access to the healthcare services they need, including reproductive care.  In the wake of the recent judicial decisions by the Washington and Texas federal courts, UW Medicine reaffirms its support for access to abortion care — including the use of mifepristone — as part of a full continuum of reproductive healthcare services.

Mifepristone has been approved by the FDA for 23 years and has been shown in numerous clinical studies to be both safe and effective. Mifepristone is also an important medication for the treatment of miscarriage and early pregnancy loss.

The majority of pregnant individuals seeking an abortion in the U.S. now use medication abortion. Under the Washington federal court’s ruling, patients at UW Medicine will continue to have access to abortion services while the lawsuit continues, including medication abortion care.
