Youth suicide higher in rural areas

More guns, fewer mental health services and greater stigma for seeking help are factors

Young people are at high risk of suicide, and the risk is even greater for those living in rural areas, according to a recent JAMA Pediatrics study and editorial.  National Public Radio examines some of the possible reasons why, with comments from injury prevention researcher Dr. Frederick Rivara, a UW professor of pediatrics.
