SLIDESHOW: Each year thousands of workers are killed and millions more injured or diseased because of their jobs. Yesterday April 29  the University of Washington commemorated Worker Memorial Day to honor those who died in 2014 from a work-related injury or illness in King County.

Last year 89 workers succumed  from job-related injuries or illnesses in Washington state. Thirteen of these fatalities were from King County.

UW students, in collaboration with the University of Washington Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, union leaders, UW Environmental Health and Safety, and the Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies, organized the campus ceremony to remember the fallen and to raise awareness about making jobs safer and saving lives in Washington state.
