Scientists add twists to protein design

The engineered complex protein molecules have chemical bonds that can be mixed and match like base pairs of DNA.

GeekWire reports the news that biochemists at the UW Institute for Protein Design have engineered complex protein molecules with additional chemical bonds that can be mixed and matched like the base pairs of DNA.

The design of these proteins was today in a paper published by the journal Science.  The achievement could open the way for a kind of synthetic coding modeled after the manner of DNA's double helix.
