Rainbow flags fly over UW Medicine hospitals

The flags celebrate Pride Week for lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender individuals and communities

During Pride Week 2015, from Monday, June 22, to Sunday,June 28, all four UW Medicine hospitals are flying rainbow pride flags.  The flags are flown to show support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities the hospitals serve. The flags also increase public awareness of UW Medicine’s commitment to and competency in addressing LGBT healthcare issues, access and care.

The rainbow pride flag is a welcoming symbol of LGBT acceptance and is displayed around the world. UW Medicine is one of the first healthcare organizations in the country to fly rainbow flags in unison during Pride Week. The flags are flying at Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, all in Seattle, and at Valley Medical Center in Renton, Wash.

In 2014 all four hospitals were named "Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality" and were included in the Human Rights Campaign 2014 Healthcare Equality Index.
