Nutrition doc’s memoir tells of struggles with food, family
Anne McTiernan was sent off to boarding school at the age of four. Emotionally starved, she went on to struggle with food, body image and weight fluctuations for more than a decade.
Today, as a medical doctor and nationally recognized epidemiologist, she helps other women overcome their own battles with food. McTiernan chronicles her journey to adulthood in a new memoir, Starved: A Nutrition Doctor’s Journey from Empty to Full.
The adversity she faced as a child helped her become a better researcher, she says.
