Nurse’s artistry on canvas reveals patients in bold colors

Mary Larson's gift with a brush benefits an often-struggling community

UW Medicine nurse Mary Larson provides care for people at Harborview Medical Center's Pioneer Square Clinic. Many patients there have experienced homelessness.

Outside of work, Larson's artistry takes shape: She paints portraits of her patients, capturing their personalities in bold strokes and bright colors. Instead of selling the works of art for money, she exchanges the portraits for socks, toiletries and other items to help her patients and the community.
