New cup’s reservoir addresses cleft palate, infant nutrition

Design is joint work of UW Dentistry, PATH and Seattle Children’s

Several million babies born each year in Africa and South Asia can’t breastfeed due to prematurity or craniofacial anomalies like cleft lip or palate.

Now a collaboration of PATH, Seattle Children's and the University of Washington School of Dentistry has created a small feeding cup with a tiny reservoir at its spout. The NIFTY™ cup is an inexpensive solution to a complex problem.
