20-minute conversation helps brain-injury recovery

Patients who sustain mild traumatic brain injuries can benefit significantly from a 20-minute conversation with a social worker before being discharged from a hospital, according to a recent study led by the University of Washington School of Social Work.

Head injuries affect more than a million people nationwide each year. A counseling protocol created by assistant professor Megan Moore appeared to help patients cope in the aftermath of an accident, the research indicated.
