State funds trial of psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy

Psychiatrists at the University of Washington School of Medicine are designing a trial to study the medical use of psilocybin, after Washington legislators passed a law that authorized the research.

"What we're anticipating is studying people who are veterans or first-responders, who meet diagnostic criteria for PTSD, post-traumatic stress disorder, (and) who also meet diagnostic criteria for alcohol-use disorder," said Dr. Nathan Sackett, acting assistant professor in psychiatry & behavioral sciences.

The trial is expected to start by Jan. 1, 2025. In a blog post, learn more about the trial and its impetus.
