The incidence of colon cancer for those under age 50 is rising. That's why the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force published a draft recommendation to begin colorectal cancer screenings at age 45, and have them covered by insurers as a prudent measure of preventive care.

If the guideline is approved as-is, 22 million more Americans would immediately be eligible for screening. 

Dr. Rachel Issaka, a UW Medicine gastroenterologist, comments on the recommendation and the importance of ensuring that health disparities don't worsen if these are finalized.
