Melanoma is the most common skin cancer and the fifth most common cancer among adults in the United States. Risk can be reduced by limiting exposure to ultraviolet rays and using sun protection. Research published today shows that efforts to spread that message appears to be working, as rates of melanoma dropped sharply among adolescents and young adults.

Two co-senior authors of the paper, Dr. Jennifer Gardner, clinical assistant professor of medicine (dermatology) at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and Margaret Madeleine, an associate member of epidemiology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, give context to the findings in downloadable video soundbites.
