With most school instruction happening online, it's difficult for teens and young children to connect with their friends socially.
Dr. Mollie Grow, a UW Medicine and Seattle Children's pediatrician, explains parents can help kids build resilience for such circumstances. First, she says, provide as much routine and structure as possible for children, to bring enhance the predictability of their days. Second, families should spend as much time as possible outdoors, even in fall and winter. And if life during the pandemic feels overwhelming, reach out to schools and doctors, who may provide perspective and information that further addresses common concerns and challenges.
