Two Harborview buildings need seismic upgrades
UW Medicine and King County are exploring ideas to safeguard the hospital's Center Tower and East Clinic.
Two buildings on the Seattle campus of Harborview Medical Center do not meet seismic requirements of new construction. The hospital system's leaders and King County, which owns the building, are studying plans and the costs involved to retrofit the buildings to meet earthquake-safety standards.
Paul Hayes, Harborview's executive director, said preliminary estimates are $268 million for the Center Tower, and $123 million for the East Clinic.
