Suicide warning signs, resources and how to help your child

Staying alert to distress signals from our children and other teens we know is vital work.
Every day there are more than 5,400 suicide attempts by students in grades seven through 12 in the United States. In Washington state, the suicide rate is higher than the national average.
Jennifer Stuber, an assistant professor of social work, and Sue Eastgard, a clinician, co-founded Forefront, a University of Washington-based suicide-prevention organization. They offer insights about parents' role, especially the willingness to simply start a conversation.
