Pediatricians write guidelines on care for transgender kids
A new American Academy of Pediatrics statement tries to dispel a variety of myths about growing up with gender identity questions.
A new statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics offers guidance to doctors and parents in caring for and being supportive of transgender and gender-diverse kids. It also tries to dispel myths about growing up wondering about one's gender identity. In an interview for a New York Times article, UW Medicine's Dr. Cora Breuner, a professor of pediatrics, Division of Adolescent Medicine, said the guidelines arose partly in response to queries from pediatricians, parents and patients. Breuner told reporter Peri Klass, “Many times, when there are gender issues, we don’t have a road map.”
