How to combat seasonal affective disorder

With gray, rainy days, it’s easy to feel lethargic. But feeling persistently fatigued or hopeless could indicate something more serious.

Light therapy, used to make up for fewer daylight hours during the winter months, has advantages, says Amanda Focht, UW Medicine medical director of outpatient psychiatry.  Light boxes are readily available at retail outlets, and yield relatively fast response, with few side effects when used appropriately.
