Seattle native and paralympic skier Mark Bathum is representing the United States in South Korea.

Mark Bathum has retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease. “I look at the world it's as though I'm seeing through toilet paper tubes,” he said during a medical checkup at UW Medicine before heading to South Korea to participate in the Paralympics.

Patients like Mark inspire the rest of us by rising above life's challenges, said sports-medicine specialist Brian Krabak. “That doesn't stop him from continuing to be active and from continuing to do things."
