First of its kind: Social Work prof’s study of aging LGBT population
Karen Fredriksen-Goldsen, a professor at the University of Washington School of Social Work, is principal investigator of the first U.S. longitudinal study of health and well-being of LGBTQ midlife and older adults.
“We want to understand marginalization, health and aging,” she said. “I think this community has been invisible but they want their stories told. Many of them have experienced victimization and discrimination. We can use that information to figure out who’s at greatest risk and then develop interventions to support their distinct needs.
