EKG a necessary tool in athletic screening
An electrocardiogram, or EKG, is a necessary part of health screenings for youth athletes, says Dr. Jonathan Drezner.
In a KIRO 7 News story, reporter Deborah Horne talks to UW Medicine physician Jonathan Drezner about the need for EKGs during routine sports screenings for young athletes. Commenting on a U.K. study indicating that the EKG screenings did not catch some heart anomalies, Drezner notes that it takes a skilled eye to catch subtle problems on an EKG. The answer is better training, he said, not less screening.
