Creating artisanal proteins not found in nature

Researchers at UW Medicine's Institute for Protein Design appear to have unraveled a long-known mystery.

Two decades ago, the notion of building custom proteins and correctly predicting their structure was a dream. Today David Baker and colleagues are doing that, with the hope that these from-scratch creations will combat medical conditions such as flu and celiac disease.
