Amputee support group flourishes at Harborview Medical Center
Seattle Times features a group going strong for 40 years, and the stories of some of its participants.
Someone in the United States loses a limb every three minutes. The recovery process is as much about regaining mental strength as physical strength, and a Harborview Medical Center support group has been helping with that for nearly 40 years.
Seattle Times reporter Christine Clarridge, photographer Ellen M. Banner and videographer Ramon Dompor report on how patients receive the kind of emotional, physical and rehabilitative support they need, and to know that they are not alone. The article also tells the individidual stories of members of the group encouraging and learning from each other.
